Johan Ong
A lover of rare aroids and plant biotechnology, Johan created GreenOlab at the heart of La Caverne to make micropropagation accessible in France, opening up techniques that used to be reserved for closed agricultural institutes.
Learn to multiply your rare plants under sterile conditions. An intensive training day held every Saturday in our lab (or on a weekday on request) to practise under a laminar flow hood, prepare your media and master every stage of culture.
Sheltered from the outside world, a tiny plantlet grows its first roots.
We open the tube and lift the plantlet out, gently, with tweezers.
Not a trace of gel left. Clean roots, ready for the world.
Its first real leaves, its first roots in open air. It adapts.
A pot, a light substrate, and time to settle in.
They teach us to grow, to adapt, to start again.
Learn to do it in the lab ↓This is GreenOlab: a micropropagation lab at La Caverne, beneath the concrete of Paris, in a former underground car park turned orbital station.
In sterile jars, under LED light, our plants grow sheltered from the outside world. A few people watch over them with the precision of a flight crew.
“Our plants are not products. They are teachers. They teach us to grow, to adapt, to start again.”
Here, science, art and imagination meet to sketch out another story. Our mission is to spark wonder at an Earth that is changing fast — to live on it better, and to imagine it differently.
Don't be afraid to stray from the plan: a mistake is not a failure, it is a mutation — the very engine of evolution and the spark of all creation. GreenOlab is a concrete attempt at reconciliation with the living world.
Cutting-edge lab expertise allied with a deep passion for plant conservation.

With more than 15 years in professional micropropagation labs, Duminda oversees all hygiene protocols, the biochemical calibration of nutrient media and the technical supervision of training in the lab.
A full day with 7 hours of practice (lunch break 1pm-2pm) held on Saturdays or weekdays in Paris 18th by Johan Ong and Duminda Weerasinghe. Equipment, consumables and plants included. Taught in French and English.
Discover the sterile environment, prepare your first nutrient medium and make your first transfers.
Master bringing living plants into culture, node cutting and hormone balance.
Design your own recipes and set up a working micropropagation space at home.
Pick your Saturday or ask for a weekday. To make sure everyone gets real time under the laminar flow hood, we welcome 1 to 2 participants per session at most.

Pre-poured, autoclaved jars ready to use, powders in a standard 5 litre size, calibrated PPM™ doses and technical glassware.
5 PTFE-vented containers, each holding 50 ml of initiation gel (MS + PPM™), sterilised at 121 °C. Ready to inoculate straight away.
5 sterile pre-poured containers with a Stage 2 medium enriched with 6-BAP. Ideal for dividing your explants with no cooking and no autoclave.
5 sterile containers with a rooting medium (IBA auxins + activated charcoal against oxidation) to get plantlets ready to leave the jar.
A complete assortment covering the whole micropropagation cycle, poured under a laminar flow hood and autoclaved in our lab.
6 PTFE-vented jars, 3 sachets of media (Stage 1, 2, 3, 5 L each), agar, PPM™ 10 ml, 25 cm forceps, scalpel and a full manual.
The full trio of powders to make 5 litres of each medium: 5 L Initiation + 5 L Multiplication + 5 L Rooting (15 L in total).
10 high-clarity cups with vented domes, sterile airy substrate and a 3-week step-down humidity protocol.
A complete pre-weighed formula (MS salts + vitamins + sucrose + mild cytokinins) to make 5 L of clean medium.
Full MS salts and an optimised 6-BAP concentration to trigger strong axillary budding in Monstera and Philodendron.
A formula enriched with rooting auxin (IBA) for a dense root system before moving to substrate.
Basal mineral salts and vitamins with no growth regulators or sugar, to formulate your own custom media to the gram.
A 10 ml dropper bottle dosed exactly for 5 litres of sterile medium (at 2 ml/L). Stops fungi and bacteria without an autoclave.
A money-saving 30 ml size to treat 15 to 30 litres of culture medium. The benchmark against contamination.
Pure cytokinin with a graduated pipette to dose your 5 litres. Essential for multiplying axillary buds.
A ready-to-use rooting auxin. Triggers vigorous roots during Stage 3.
A powerful synthetic auxin used together with BAP for tissue organogenesis.
An exact pre-weighed 40 g dose (8 g/L) of high gel-strength purified agar. Holds perfectly at pH 5.7.
An exact pre-weighed 14 g dose (2.8 g/L) for 5 litres of perfectly clear gel, so you can watch the roots.
A 10 g dose (for 5 to 10 litres) of activated charcoal that neutralises phenolic oxidation and tissue browning.
Clear, reusable jars, autoclavable at 121 °C, with a 0.2 µm breathable membrane against vitrification.
Acclimatisation pots with a clear dome and rotating vent to wean your plantlets without dehydration shock.
Fine 25 cm tweezers (to reach the bottom without touching the sides) + a no. 3 scalpel handle and 10 no. 11 blades.
A roll of micro-vented tape for Petri dishes + 20 hydrophobic 0.22 µm filter patches for lids.
Follow the progress of our 21 batches of rare aroids, bananas and vanilla through the lab's 4 stages of culture.
